The Critical Care Advanced Transfer Training course is aimed at all those involved with the transport of critically ill patients including doctors, nurses, ODPs, paramedics and ambulance/emergency technicians.
The Intensive Care Society’s “Guidelines for the transport of the critically ill adult ( 3rd Edition 2011)” state “All staff potentially involved in the transport of critically ill patients should receive appropriate training in transfer medicine, and have the opportunity to gain experience in a supernumerary capacity” [11.7.1] and “All staff involved in transfers must be able to demonstrate the range of competencies appropriate to their role.” [11.7.2]. The CCATT course covers both of these stipulations.
Transporting critically ill patients is a challenging, high-risk situation that requires the right team, with the right training to ensure these risks are managed appropriately and to perform a safe and effective transfer. All surgery and anaesthesia comes with a risk and when patients deteriorate do your staff have the knowledge to effectively assess and stabilise a critically ill patient and perform a safe transfer?
The course provides the most advanced up to date transfer training available in the UK. This intensive one-day course will provide medical personnel with the skills and knowledge needed to make critical care transfer as safe and efficient as possible, improving outcomes and comfort for the patient.
Despite high quality simulation, training with manikins can differ to using your knowledge and skills in the real world, when it really matters.
Upon successful completion of the IEC Instructor course, and subject to an approved enhanced DBS check, we can facilitate the opportunity to attend a 5-day hospital placement working with members of our team in a busy hospital in the North West, to take your training to the next level.
This placement is not simply an observer placement. It is a ‘hands on’ practical placement involving real life patients where students are required to achieve a number of airway management procedures including laryngeal mask insertions, attendance at cardiac arrests, assessment of critically ill patients on the critical care unit and assessment of limb injuries, amongst a whole host of other skills.
All students will be under direct supervision of critical care staff at all times, under the overall supervision of a leading consultant.
