National Fire & Rescue Trauma Conference – RTC Major Trauma Pathway (chaired by Dr Tim Smith)

Dr Tim Smith MB ChB, FRCEM, DipIMC (RCS Ed) is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine based in Cheshire, having started his consultant career at the Cheshire & Mersey Major Trauma Centre at Aintree University Hospital.

Tim has a sub-specialty interest in prehospital care and works as an Enhanced Pre-Hospital Care Consultant with North West Air Ambulance and The Air Ambulance Service in the East Midlands as well as responding as a BASICS doctor with North West Pre-Hospital Critical Care Charity.

He is an Associate Medical Director with the North West Ambulance Service and has responsibility for the critical care aspects of service delivery and also undertakes the role of Strategic Medical Advisor for major and mass casualty incidents.
As a well-established Prehospital and Emergency Medicine clinician he has gained experience operating on multiple significant incidents and events including :-

  • Rock Ferry explosion
  • Bosley Mill explosion
  • Manchester Arena attack
  • NWAS rising tide Major Incident in November 2020.

In 2022 Tim joined the team at Trauma Resus as Associate Medical Director, and provides senior clinical leadership for clients in the Police, Security and Fire & Rescue sectors.

He is also part of the team providing medical care at the Glastonbury music festival.

Alongside Tim in the RTC Major Trauma session will be :-

  • Mr Andy Holden – RTC & Trauma Lead, Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service
  • Dr Scott Beattie – PHC Consultant, North West Air Ambulance
  • Prof Martin Smith – MTC Consultant, Salford Royal Major Trauma Centre
